چکیده

The occurrence of the Bloom-Gilman local duality in the low-order moments of the nucleon structure function is investigated for values of the squared four-momentum transfer Q between ∼ 0.5 and 10 (GeV/c). At variance with previous analyses truncated Cornwall-Norton moments, limited to the nucleon-resonance production regions, are considered. The role played by target-mass corrections is illustrated, showing that target-mass effects are necessary (but not sufficient) for producing the observed Bloom-Gilman duality of the nucleon structure function. The possibility of a local duality between the unphysical region at large values of the Nachtmann variable and the nucleon elastic peak contribution is analyzed. It is found that the proton magnetic form factor extracted assuming local duality is significantly below the experimental data at low and intermediate values of Q. Bloom-Gilman duality of the nucleon structure function and the elastic peak contribution

The occurrence of the Bloom-Gilman duality in the nucleon structure function is investigated by analyzing the Q2-behavior of low-order moments, both including and excluding the contribution arising from the nucleon elastic peak. The Natchmann definition of the moments has been adopted in order to cancel out target-mass effects. It is shown that the onset of the Bloom-Gilman duality occurs aroun...

Higher Twists in the Pion Structure Function

We calculate the QCD moments of the pion structure function using DrellYan data on the quark distributions in the pion and a phenomenological model for the resonance region. The extracted higher twist corrections are found to be larger than those for the nucleon, contributing around 50% of the lowest moment at Q2 = 1 GeV2. Understanding the structure of the pion represents a fundamental challen...

Bloom-Gilman duality of inelastic structure functions in nucleon and nuclei

The Bloom-Gilman local duality of the inelastic structure function of the proton, the deuteron and light complex nuclei is investigated using available experimental data in the squared four-momentum transfer range from 0.3 to 5 (GeV/c)2. The results of our analysis suggest that the onset of the Bloom-Gilman local duality is anticipated in complex nuclei with respect to the case of the proton an...

JEFFERSON LAB EXPERIMENT 97-010 Measurement of Hydrogen and Deuterium Inclusive Resonance Cross Sections at Intermediate Q for Parton-Hadron Duality Studies

This experiment will extend measurements of inclusive nucleon resonance electropro-duction cross sections from hydrogen and deuterium targets throughout the resonance region (1 < W 2 < 4 GeV 2) to span the four-momentum transfer range 0.5 < Q 2 < 7.5 (GeV/c) 2. The cross sections will be used in conjunction with existing deep inelastic, resonance , and elastic data for precision experimental te...

(a New Proposal to Jeeerson Lab Pac18) Measurement of Neutron ( 3 He) Spin Structure Functions in the Resonance Region

We propose a precision extraction of the neutron spin structure function g 1 and the virtual photon asymmetry An1 in the resonance region over a moderate Q 2 range (up to Q = 4:2(GeV=c)) using a polarized He target. The Bloom-Gilman duality has been experimentally demonstrated for the spin independent structure functions down to small values of Q. The proposed experiment combined with Deep-Inel...
